Reggae Remedy’s latest EP Bersedia a tribute to Ismail Haron seeks to unite two powerful and distinct styles from Singapore legendary composer & singer Ismail Haron with the colourful musical styles of the island of Jamaica such as Reggae, Rocksteady & Ska featuring the enigmatic vocalist from The Pinholes Famie.
The 4 track EP feature songs such as Mari Sayang given a Ska treatment paying homage to the one of Ismail Haron’s early recordings with a traditional Ska arrangement reworked making it sound like it came out of the legendary Studio One studios in Jamaica that produced legendary artist like The Skatalites.
Bersedia the tittle track to the EP is revamped to a classic Rocksteady song focusing on strong harmonies. In a typical Rocksteady song from the golden days of Jamaican music in the late sixties singing about love.
Mak Minah originally a b side release from one of Ismail Haron’s album from the seventies was chosen and reworked to a funky reggae anthem popularised by Jamaican reggae band like Toots and The Maytals. Funky guitar chops with a heavy hammond organ vibe, a distictive one drop drum beat alongside Famie’s deep resonant vocal to lock the whole song in.
Last but not least the final song Bebas given the Dub treatment with a melodica as the lead instrument paying homage to the great Augustus Pablo one of most influencial Dub producer and melodica maestro. A 4 track EP uniting 2 islands on the opposite side of the globe through music.
